Nissan Motor Co. has developed a new collision safety device that senses/sees what happens when an automobile accidentally/purposely hits;) a pedestrian. The safety device releases a hinge to lift the engine hood slightly so as to soften the impact if a pedestrian is hit.
The said safety device was unveiled on August 06, 2007 after a demonstration at the automaker's Oppama plant in YOKOSUKA, Japan. A dummy was hit in a crash test to demonstrate how the safety device works.
Nissan Motor Co. will offer the pop-up hood collision safety device in Japan this year. Jaguar, and Honda Motor Co. already offer the feature.
