Gas myths, heard them all, right? I think at one point we even posted some right? Well one by one I decided that some of these rumors need some dispelling. Now this was not done in an extremely scientific fashion but I tried to control it as best as I could and be consistent.

First off, Keep your car tuned!
Recently my car started getting some bad gas mileage. I have a turbo Civic EP3 and was getting about 300 miles per tank, not bad for your average turbo'd Civic right? Well I average about 12 gallons a tank so I get about 25 miles per gallon.
Well slowly I began to see my gas mileage deteriorate. My finally tank was 245 miles, 12 gallons, average of 20 miles per gallon. Well I lost 5 miles per gallon! So I began thinking and concluded that I haven't changed my plugs or my air filter in awhile, and after I did, VOILA! Back to my normal mileage.
So lesson #1, a well tuned car sips gas, instead of chugging it.

My second experiment I was able to do was the air conditioning test vs. windows down. I tested multiple tanks of gas and concluded... there is no real difference. I didn't lose any mileage at all. I ran 4 tanks of gas under this test and my two runs with AC concluded 296 and 305 miles per tank and with the windows down 303 and 310. All with anywhere between 11.5-12 gallons when pumped.
Now I know these tests are conclusive and would not stand up to any sort of real scientific tests, but hey its my short answer and I figure my readers might enjoy it.
So in conclusion, tune your car well, and drive comfortable with the AC going!

More tests to come!
