Long before rappers and athletes decked out their cars in "Gucci" cloth or leather, this collaboration truly did happen.
In the late 70s, Cadillac in a desperate attempt to attack the European luxury automobile market joined up with Gucci, the prolific designer, and created the Gucci Cadillac.
With only 200 made, this is a rare gem.
This masterpiece came with real Gucci material for the interior rather than the imitation leather that must be bought today (Gucci will not sell any of their fabric for alternate uses).
It came equipped with 24k Gold Plated Badge Work and the classic Gucci Green/Red Pinstriping.
And to top it off, it came with a 5 piece luggage kit.
Though it sold for approximately $7,000 more than an already expensive Cadillac priced at $15,000, this marvel has become a true collectors car.

Icons
We all know of the great iconic figures in cinema history; James Bond, Steve McQueen, James Dean, and Marty McFly. (Okay, maybe the last one's not "iconic" per se but it ties in w/ what I'm trying to get at) Behind these great and sometimes envied men is something that is on the same par (or a notch below) their name...and that is the car they drive.
1. James Bond
In every James Bond movie, the type of car that "Agent 007" drives is probably as important as the actor chosen to play the James Bond part. James Bond has all the money he wants at his dispense and gets the most beautiful of women. It's kind of not fair that he gets to drive the best cars too.
Aston Martin DB5 Coupe

This is the most famous of all the Bond cars. It was featured primarily in 1964's Goldfinger.
2. Steve McQueen
"The King of Cool."I think that pretty much sums it all up. Steve McQueen was one of the biggest actors in the 60s and 70s. Aside from acting, he was a huge racecar and motorcycle enthusiast. He owned a plethora of cars personally, including a Porsche 356 Speedster and a Ferrari 250GT.
Porsche 356 Speedster

Ferrari 250GT

3. James Dean
James Dean is a cultural icon despite having only 3 films outputted in his career (Rebel Without A Cause, East of Eden, and Giant). He is probably best known for his role in the film Rebel Without A Cause, a character in which was said to be a pretty close interpretation of Dean himself. Outside of cinema, James Dean was also a racecar driver. His most famous car (which has become known as "The James Dean Car") is his customized Porsche 550 Spyder. The car was 1 of only 90 made and was customized by George Barris (yes, Mr. Batmobile himself). Ironically, this car was also the car that James Dean was in when he died in a head on collision.
Porsche 550 Spyder

4. Marty McFly
(See THAI SPYCE'S post)
These men were certified bad asses, and their cars were their membership card. They had women at their will, adventures that only regular people can dream of, and cars that have become invaluable pieces of history. It's amazing the stamp that these men were able to put on their respective vehicles, so much as to the point that the vehicles themselves took somewhat of a precedent to the man himself. It only comes to show that men want to be them, women want to be with them...but what they failed to tell you was that everyone wants to drive their cars.

Chicks and Cars Don't Really Mix

In every industry there always has to be hot chicks promoting everything from car clubs, electronic gaming events, to even technology conventions. The truth of the fact is that sex sells, and that guys are suckers for hot chicks with big rack. But in reality these women don't even think twice about the "fans" they meet at car conventions.
In reality you pretty much have to be a hard-core baller or some type of artist to meet a hot import model. If you really think about "car culture" its not very different from those guys that collect Yu-Gi-Oh playing cards or guys that collect comics. Even car guys are nerds. So unless you're a pro racecar driver or high up in a profitable business, luck for love from one of these debutantes is going to be difficult.
My proposal to the guys out there is to diversify. Make yourselves more well-rounded in everything, because girls really don't love geeks/nerds, they just pretend to. Once we break the cycle of being a "car nerd" we can step out into reality and treat "car models" just like a regular people on the street. And just like regular people we can talk about movies, philosophy, food, and having a good time.
Bless you

THE FLUX CAPACITOR MARTY!!!
How many of you watched Back to the Future? Come on don't try to lie to yourself. After watching the Back to the Future series, every single one of you wanted to get a Delorean. Why? Was it because Michael J. Fox looked so damn good in that baby with his high-top Nike's? Maybe because you yourself wanted to upstage that jerk, Biff ("Make like a tree and get outta here"). Well let's reminisce here for a minute if we could.
Here's a lilttle bio for y'all. The Delorean DMC-12 was manufactured by the De Lorean Motor Company. These suckers were made from 1981-1983 (83 was when I was born! crap!) It was the only vehicle produced by the De Lorean company. The reason why y'all wanted one was because of the full on gull-wing doors and that slammin' stainless steel frame. Not bad for an Irish made vehicle huh?
It is rumored that De Lorean produced around 8,583 of these mother suckers, but only 6,000 or so exist. The other day, down the street from my house I saw one parked and so desperately wanted to check it out. I wanted to go to that dude's house shake his hand and tell him that I too believe in the Flux Capacitor.
So next time you across a De Lorean.. pay homage and understand that the De Lorean IS Pop culture.
GOLD!!! OH WHAAAAAT

RACK EM UP.

DC PRO SPEC 1.0
Ok y'all probably heard through the grapevine that Thai Spyce here is into shoes. I collect a LOT of shoes. Anything from Nike, BAPE, Adidas, Vans, Ice Cream, visvim, YSL, Dior, etc. I mean I've been collecting shoes since grade school. I can remember picking up my kicks at Shoe City for them British Knights and all those Jordan's from Footlockers and Niketowns. My aunt used to work for Nike up in Beaverton, and used to get me into the employee store out there and shop. I recall picking up a pair of Nike Air Much More Uptempo's Olympic Edition Scottie Pippens. Oh whaaaa!!! Now the fool wants to come back to the NBA and play for the Heat to contend for a championship. What a shmuck.
Anyways, DC (also known for there skate shoes) is now designing a pair of racing shoes for hardcore fashionable racers. Two styles will be released sometime this year, the DC PRO SPEC 1.0 & the DC Chicane.
The DC PRO SPEC 1.0 will feature DC's Dynamic Grip Technology, Heel Gel, & the Drop-In Cushion System, all the mechanics DC shoes are known for. With fire-resistant rubber and cable stitching what more can you ask for in a racing shoe?
The DC CHICANE is based on the rally cars DC raced in the Gumball Rally 3000. Each of the three pairs are based on the vehicles which were painted in a camouflage print.
If you are a hardcore racer, you better cop these. They will be released anytime during Spring 2007.

Renault R5 : Possibly the only cool French Car

You're probably wondering why French people suck so much or why they smell so bad. I can't answer the first but it involves part of the second question, which is the lack of deoderant. But besides their foul smell and crazy socialist government they have provided the world with the 1980's Renalut R5 Turbo.
This car came from the lowly Renault LeCar. Engineers over at Renault decided to be bold and brash for once in their lives and stick a 1.5l engine in the back. Great thing is that they probably stole German engineering work to make the engine turbocharged with a potency of 1200 HP. Think about the stateside Fastiva owned by Jay Leno, which was ten years after the R5. Stock trim these engines put out 160 HP, with le power packages of over 300 HP. Yay!

These cars were designed for rally racing in mind. Unequal control arms on all four corners and non power brakes and steering. That pretty much makes it like Rocco Sifredi; tough, hard, and powerful. Yay! The rear tires measure about 10 inches in width.
So if you're up for trying new French things like a nice bleu cheese, eschire butter, Chateu Y'quem wine, Animal Trainer : Rocco Sifredi, then you might be interested in the R5.
Oh yeah $20K for one of these les babies.

We are the world, we are the children...
It's really interesting the collaborative efforts that are involved between companies in different industries. What's often referred to as "networking", I like to think of as mere "support" between friends. If you've browsed TheTunerSource Blog and Myspace page, you've noticed that we have a lot of banners, shout outs, or make references to different companies that sometimes have nothing to do with the automotive industry. Is it 'cause they've paid for the advertisements? No. Is it a "I'll scratch your back, you scratch mine" exchange? Hardly. When dealing with friends, there's an intrinsic fulfillment just to help your friends. There's no quid pro quo or indian giving involved...just the simple desideration to help your friends get their name out as well.
I thought I'd bring up this point just to illustrate the importance of networking and the amazing things that can come from just meeting and getting to know people, pertaining to business and just life in general. For example, you might've seen a few references TheTunerSource.com has made about model Lisa Fleming. We've known Lisa from about the time of inception of TheTunerSource.com and she became a good friend of our's. When the time arose, she graciously helped us with our advertisement pieces by doing our photoshoot.
When TheTunerSource.com launches, we hope that it'll provide a medium for you all to meet and connect with different car enthusiasts to some extent. The site will be very easy to use so connecting with others will be easy as well. I don't know about you but when I find a site that connects me to others with common interests and/or a site that lets me sell and buy stuff, I become a little neurotic about the site and find myself using it a little too obsessively at times :) Although this might be the case for TheTunerSource.com, we hope that you will not only find the site extremely useful but also just as important, a fun experience. Who knows what will develop from your time on the site...I'm waiting to see myself!

Importance of the Helmholtz Frequencies
Importance of the Helmholtz Frequencies
Yay! Well don't be shy about learning scientific things these are real-world things that can help us have a really nice engine. Helmholtz? Sounds like another ridiculous city in Austria where they make a special beer or sausage. Mr. Hermann von Helmholt was a famous German scientist/physicist that developed a great theory on resonant frequencies in air cavities. Just imagine yourself blowing over the top of a bottle and creating a sound. Or you can think of that special person blowing over the top of your "bottle" and you making a sound. Somthing like that. Well Mr.Herms Helmholtz found that different volumes of air create different frequencies.
What exactly happens is that when you blow or she blows air into a cavity the pressure inside the bottle increases. In essence imagine yourself blowing a packet of air at the opening of a bottle. This backet of air will go down the bottle neck only so far if you can imagine the whole chamber to be an "air spring" When the packet of air comes back out because the effects of it hitting the "air spring" some of the air inside will leave the bottle. Because the "air spring" must come to a rest and try to achieve the outside pressure it will actually suck back some air to make the whole system stable.
Kinda cool. Why is that so cool? That is why acoustic guitars have that hole right in the middle. This applies to us because engines have ports on the intake manifolds and exhaust manifolds. So effectively we ca "tune" these manifolds to work in line with the correct frequencies that are associated with the proper power band. Yay! That means extra power for making things longer or shorter.
That is why Bisimoto is the fastest all-motor Honda guy in the world. He "tunes" his intake manifold lengths and his exhaust manifold for maximum efficiency.

Check out this air box made by BMW. These "tuned" boxes give the appropriate resonances to promote extra sucking from naturallly aspirated engines. $2300 MSRP. Niiiiceee!

INVISIBLE:MAN x SCION XB x THE SHADOW CONSPIRACY
What's up?!!! THAI SPYCE is about to drop some knowledge to you folks.
My boy from INVISIBLE:MAN, Andrew, was asked by Scion to remix the XB for the SEMA convention this past last year. Only three players were asked to do up the Scion lines: Stash did the TC, Futura for the XA, and Andrew with the XB. Those are some sick cats! For those who don't know what or who INVISIBLE:MAN is, let me quiz y'all.
Andrew started the clothing line INVISIBLE:MAN way back in 99'. He has done work with Stussy, The Shadow Conspiracy, Neighborhood, BountyXHunter, Recon, IN4MATION, eS--just to name a few--and wanted to start his own gig. So, he decided to make high-end streetwear apparel, thus forming INVISIBLE:MAN. His apparel is gaining critical acclaim in the states with his raw graphics and the "in your face" mentality. He not only does t-shirts but he also ventured into making creative cut-n-sew sweaters, jackets, denim, hats, scarves, shirts suits. He has a store in the iconic district of Harajuku in Tokyo, Japan...in case you want to check out his gear. If that is too far of a commute for you (unless you live there!), you can check out his store in Costa Mesa called COMMISSARY.
For more on this whip, check out The Shadow Conspiracy's website, (www.theshadowconspiracy.com). They have a sick article and interview with Andrew. Now, if y'all want some fresh threads, definitely hit up Andrew's store, COMMISSARY (www.commissarystores.com). They carry everything from exclusive labels such as Supreme, BountyxHunter, aNYthing, Stussy, etc.

The Introduction to ... THAI SPYCE
Welcome to TheTunerSource.com Blog!
At first, you are probably reading this and thinking, "Why is this particular moderator named, 'Thai Spyce?'" Well, let me give you a little introduction about myself. I am of Thai/Vietmamese decent and am really spicy. Good enough explanation, huh? As more blogs are posted, you will understand my origin. In the mean time, sit back, relax, and enjoy my posts.
A while back (maybe last summer or so), we at TheTunerSource.com had a lovely photoshoot with import model, Lisa Fleming (liskimfleming.com). We had out photoshoot in Long Beach at the infamous, "Top of the World." For you Orange County perverts out there a.k.a. lovebirds, this is the spot where you take your chick after prom and you do the wammin' and bammin'. But, instead of having promiscuous fun, we had a photoshoot instead. We brought out some cars we had laying around, such as the Lamborghini Gallardo and the candy licorice red Acura NSX. Our photos were taken by our bud who does photography for RVCA clothing, Quang (photosalaquang.com). He has also done photography work for the clothing company I work for, Franco Shade (Francoshade.com). If y'all need a sick photographer for your company/business, just hit us up. We'll be glad to slut his ass out.
Oh! Don't let me forget, add us on Myspace at: www.myspace.com/thetunersource.
Here are some photos from the shoot. Enjoy!

OH WHATTTTTTTTT. GO AHEAD AND SALIVATE. BECAUSE I DID THAT DAY AT THE PHOTOSHOOT.

The Small and Mighty and Usually Overlooked CA18DET
The Mighty and seriously underestimated CA18DET
This 1.8L CA series engine which boasts 175hp and 169 ft lbs. of torque was introduced in many different overseas vehicles from Nissan (The S12, 180sx S13, Bluebird, 200sx (European/Australian)). With a brand new, in 1987, Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) aluminum head and 16 valves mated to an iron block with a bore of 83mm and a stroke of 83.6mm this mighty mouse could easily rev up to 7,200 RPMs. These robust little engines came equipped with a Garrett T25 (.48 A/R) and an intercooler.
Two variant heads are available, a High Port head and a Low Port head. The High Port is more desirable due to the better high RPM flow.
For those of you looking to swap an SR20DET into a 240sx or any other car for that matter (perhaps an e30 BMW hmmmm....) I suggest seriously thinking about the CA18DET. It is a low cost viable option for many enthusiasts. It also is belt driven, making it easier to replace (rather than chain driven which doesn't need to be replaced often, but can be a headache to do.)
Well hope you guys enjoyed this little tidbit of information on a great, relatively unknown, engine!

Things That Are Here That Weren't by David Lam
The vast majority of everyday people (mainly within the 15-30 year old demographic) follow daily routines that they have set for themselves without perspective as to how these sometimes superfluous tasks became ritualized. Things that didn't even exist, say, 10 years ago have become integrated into ways of life. To objectively look at the advancements of our society within a 10 year time frame is quite dauntingly marvelous (as oxymoronic as that sounds).
This was brought to my attention as I was sitting at a bookstore and reading through magazines and books. My periphery was closed only to the books before me when I was approached awkwardly by a security guard. I could feel his demeanor and without a word, he had me convincing myself I had done something wrong. "Is there something I could help you with," I asked him. "I don't know... is there?", he replied. In an effort to ease the tension, I simply went on reading without wanting to get up and leave, which would then allow him the gratification of knowing that he was able to make me feel uncomfortable and "guilty." He began asking me questions about myself ( i.e. where I lived, what I did, etc.) and he found my life to be very interesting. I told him about my collaborative efforts with TheTunerSource.com and my penchant for fine films and beautiful women (okay, maybe I didn't tell him about the films and women). Simply by profiling him, he looked like a man that was trying to get by but still somewhat frustrated with life. Finally, he asked me, "Hey, do you know of any ways to make money on the internet? It seems that people nowadays are able to make a living by not even leaving their home." (Turns out, he just wanted to chat.)
And it hit me that he was right; our society has evolved so quickly that people are finding themselves struggling to stay with the times and jones. There are so many things that weren't even a seed of a thought years ago and have become a social necessity: the internet, cellular phones, Myspace, Craigslist, TheFacebook, YouTube.com, etc. I could probably go on until I run out of energy about these things and how we "need" our cell phones and "must" check our Myspace and Facebook accounts but it's become so normal that the explanations are within you, the reader's, own mind without need for reasoning.
As the first article written for a series of blog entries at TheTunerSource.com, my intention was to show you how there are things that were once a seed of thought and have then spawned into social phenomenons. As with all the things/websites I've outlined above, there was a need and want for these things and our lives, whether we want to admit it or not, have become more fun, lively, and a lot easier with the advent of them. Communication has become easier and different processes of exchange have found many "shortcuts." At TheTunerSource.com, we really wanted to get this site out to everybody because we saw the need and want for a website such as the one we are providing. We've really been laboring over this site and tying and re-tying loose ends in hopes that it too will ease a process within your lives; the process of when you're buying and selling used/new cars and parts. Within the spectacle that is our social advancement, our hope is that TheTunerSource.com will fit somewhere within that realm and that it will be your premier online solution for automotive needs.
