These three cars are to show case the technology of what VW is capable of doing to the public. They have the DSG paddle wheel shifting mechanism on them as well. The 300 HP car will be powered by the previous years GTI 2.0 power plant.
Carlos Sainz is the other driver in the Nurburgring 24 hour race a well. Lets take a view of both these guys stats, to estimate how much money VW is dumping into this project.

It seems that he won the Nurburgring 24 hour race in 1970, 1998, and 2004. All of these in a BMW!?!?! Hopefully he can replicate this for VW.
